I suppose that the Trump Cultists (aka his supporters) see the current cock fight between Trump and Sessions as just more Fake News from the liberal media.  The rest of us (the sane portion of the American public) are quite certain that Trump’s battle with former Senator Jeff Sessions and now Trump’s hand-picked Attorney General, is about Russia:  Russian meddling in our election, Trump’s love of Putin, The Trump Team’s ties to Russians, The Trump Family’s financial dealings with Russians.  There simply can be no other reason for Trump’s daily Twitter campaign maligning, sliming and dissing Sessions.  He wants him gone.

The full picture, of course, involves the current House, Senate, and Special Counsel investigations into all things Russian.  Trump has even turned to Hillary as a reason why Sessions should be fired (the Department of Justice hasn’t put Hillary in jail) which to all of us who aren’t Trump Cultists is just about the most laughable “reasoning” possible here in the real world.  But then this is the Trump Administration, isn’t it, so all things are possible.  But this is vintage Trump: blaming Obama, blaming the Deep State, blaming liberals, basically blaming anyone and everyone but himself for the mess he’s in.   In truth, he has no one to blame but himself.

And he is in a mess.  This cock fight between the New York Rooster and the Alabama Rooster has arisen, one conjectures, because the multiple Russian Hacking investigations are edging closer and closer to Trump and his family.  (Read: Trump Family Finances.)  Don’t forget, the NSA, the CIA, the FBI, the Gang of Eight, the House, the Senate and the Special Prosecutor know a hell of a lot more than we do about where all these investigations are heading.

Trump VS. Sessions?  I detest Sessions’ politics and political views.  During his 20 year reign in the Senate, he has fought every immigration bill that has come up and objects to legal immigration as well.    In 1986, a Senate committee denied Sessions, then a 39-year-old U.S. attorney in Alabama, a federal judgeship. His former colleagues testified Sessions used the n-word and joked about the Ku Klux Klan, saying he thought they were “okay, until he learned that they smoked marijuana.”   But Sessions has also worked with Democrats, ironically on Criminal Justice Reform, until he became the first sitting U.S. Senator to endorse Trump.

In the Trump/Sessions Cock Fight, the most remarkable irony is that Sessions as Attorney General is implementing Trump’s “policies” probably more than any other of his Cabinet pics save EPA’s Scott Pruitt.  So far Sessions’ Department of Justice has re-instituted a search and seizure policy of criminal assets, eliminated the Obama policy of phasing out private Federal prisons, re-instituted the War on Drugs, re-instated maximum sentences for minor drug offenses, relentlessly pursued Trump’s immigration policies, and much, much more.   Politically it would seem that Trump and Sessions are bosom buddies.

So there is only one conclusion that one can draw from this cock fight: Trump is fighting for his political life.  Since Sessions cannot exert control over Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russian investigations since his recusal, Trump feels vulnerable.  He wants someone in the Attorney Generals’ Office who will quash the investigation.  It’s the very same reason that he fired James Comey as Trump himself admitted.  Trump is beginning to run into some headwinds (a slight freshet) from Sessions former Senate buddies.  About a dozen have publicly come to Sessions’ defense and called Trump’s “tweets” inappropriate.

My final analysis of this Battle of the Roosters?  Sessions holds all the cards.  It seems quite obvious that someone in the White House has cautioned Trump about firing Sessions.   It would indeed precipitate a Constitutional Crisis and a firestorm of public reaction.  (Then again, who knows how those candy-ass Congressional Republicans would react?)  For the moment Trump has held back from firing Sessions, instead using his Twitter account to try and so insult, disrespect and demean Sessions as to cause him to resign.  Sessions is not having it.  And he’s right.  Not only does he hold all the cards (support from Republicans, Trump’s cockamamie tweets about his self-centered view that the Attorney General should protect him rather than uphold the laws of the United States and the Constitution) but Sessions is very popular among conservatives, right wingers, Evangelicals and, naturally, Trump Cultists.  This is no big surprise since as a Senator Sessions was an arch-conservative.  So Trump will put himself on the wrong side of the very folks who elected him if he fires the Attorney General.

Trump cannot win this one.  Me?  I’m hoping that he fires Sessions.  I think that he will since he simply cannot see himself as other than America's Top Mafia Don President and no one can thwart his aims.  Plunging the nation into a crisis not seen since Watergate?  Not something that Trump would even consider.  He’s the country now.  He’s the boss.  Besides, Russiagate is fake news isn’t it, so what’s the problem?

Have A Great Day!!
