THE SHITSTORM THAT IS TUMP'S WHITE HOUSE AND THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION
FIRING REASONS: PICK ONE FROM COLUMN A; ONE FROM COLUMN B; AND IF YOU NEED TO, ONE FROM COLUMN C.
First of all, let's dispense with the Republican, conservative, alt.right meme that Democrats who wanted Comey fired when he announced that Hillary Clinton was under investigation - and then later announced that she was not - but now praise him and condemn Trump's actions firing him as somehow cynical, partisan, and beyond the pale of even hyper-partisan politics. Yeah. Well, back last year none of us knew that when Comey announced to America that Hillary Clinton was under investigation for her sloppy treatment of official e-mails, yes, Democrats called for his firing since his pronouncements were totally against the FBI's and the Justice Department's "NO COMMNT" policy for ongoing investigations. His public announcement was unprecedented. But at that time Comey neglected to mention - brain fart, maybe? - that Trump Campaign associates were also under investigation for colluding with Russia to undermine the Presidential Election. This too became a several day "Breaking News Headlines" headline and Democrats were pissed when it recently became known.
But now it is clear that Trump fired Comey for doing his job, investigating potential wrongdoing and criminal activity even though those investigations centered around Trump's Associates but apparently, so far at least, not Trump personally. Democrats are rightly incensed that Trump fired Comey in an attempt to squelch the FBI's investigations into Russiagate. So, no, Democrats aren't being cynical or partisan but are responding to new information - facts, data and real world events - that have overtaken whatever animosity they might have felt over Comey's Clinton e-mail announcement. It's called taking account of changing circumstances. Had Comey also announced that there was an ongoing investigation into Trump's collusion with Russia over the rigging of the 2016 Presidential Election at the same time that he announced the FBI investigation into Hillary's e-mails, Democrats would not have been so incensed back then and might not now be so incensed over Comey's firing.
The bottom line in this Republican/Trump "distraction" is that Hillary Clinton's e-mails cannot raise to a level of importance - no matter how Sean Spicer or Trump or Jeff Sessions or Sarah Huckabee Sanders spin this crap - of a foreign country interfering in our elections. This ladies and gentlemen is not some sloppy e-mail handling, but in essence an act of war by a foreign power. Russia is, as a matter of fact, a nation with a leader, Putin, that Trump seems to love and embrace at every opportunity. This shit is so much more dangerous than the Watergate scandal or Bill Clinton's bullshit impeachment over a consensual blow job in the White House as to take top honor in America's history of political scandals.
This criticism of Democrats flip-flopping is coming from Republican members of Congress too, which, naturally, is to be expected. Some portion - 10%? 25%? 50%? 100%? - of them were probably incensed that Comey did not bring charges against Clinton at the time of his October announcement. But let's remember that Hillary's sloppy use of a private, basement server, did not result in any security breach whatsoever. Yes. No matter how wrong or careless or troubling this might have been, no one has ever claimed much less proven that there was ever a national security breach as a result - Rush, Alex and Fox excepted, of course. But when you actually take a look at the FBI's seemingly parallel investigations - Clinton E-mails & Russia Interference - is there one that seems just a tad more important than the other? Yeah. Sure does.
The essential problem with the White House and Justice Department's "handling" of Comey's dismissal is that no one could have dreamed up the level of incompetence that the Trump Administration has displayed in the post-firing firestorm over Comey's demise. The original ridiculous "reasoning" behind Comey's firing was followed up by a couple dozen alternate reality "reasons" that essentially point to Trump's "nervousness" over the FBI's Russian influence investigations. All of this scrambling has only reinforced our view that Trump was basically attempting to shut down the FBI's investigations into Trump and his associates collusion in rigging our elections. As the saying goes "You Just Can't Make This Shit Up!" It doesn't even rise to the level of a decant science fiction novel since no author could have imagined such a shitstorm of missteps that this corrupt Trump Administration has undertaken to thwart an investigation into its potentially criminal actions. Even members of the four or five Congressional investigations have now publicly stated that they believe this was Trump's motivation for firing Comey.
It's unfortunate that Trump has such a casual relationship with history since with just a tad more attention, he might have known that it wasn't the Watergate Burglary itself that caused Nixon's downfall. No. It was the cover-up in attempting to hide the White House's role in the burglary that was his downfall. Here's the fourth charge of Article I of the set of impeachment charges brought against Nixon:
Interfering or endeavouring to interfere with the conduct of investigations by the Department of Justice of the United States, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the office of Watergate Special Prosecution Force, and Congressional Committees;
