THERE’S STUPID AND THEN THER’S JUST PLAIN INCOMPREHENSIBLY DUMB
The New York Times
NOTE: This "populist" action by the Trump Administration is just so wrong on so many fronts. First, it seems to be a bone tossed to evangelicals who, as we all know, are very much devoted to protecting fetuses but flee the premises just as soon as the newborn takes its first breath. Second, it's no doubt true that China practiced forced abortions and involuntary sterilizations a couple of decades ago as it was attempting to stem population growth. China's "one-child" policy was so successful that today China is facing a severe shortage of adults to man its factories and now encourages more than one child per family. Third, with the population of Planet Earth having surpassed 7 billion recently, doesn't it make sense that efforts to reduce population growth are a good thing? Fourth, contraception actually assists in stemming the spread of diseases like syphilis and AIDS, a not trivial by product of preventing pregnancies.
Yes, we all know that Rush and company hate the United Nations since it represents one-worldism and multi-culturalism at its worst. But like so many - all? - of Trump's "policies" this one too smacks of abject ignorance and reliance on something other than considered factual information and data. Cutting U.N. family planning funds is about as smart as stepping into an elevator shaft when the elevator cab is stuck somewhere else. And about as effective a policy too.
As the old saying goes "You Just Can't Fix Stupid" but you can drive him out of office.
