POLITICAL IN-FIGHTING KILLS INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE HEARINGS?

IT'S EXACTLY WHAT TRUMP WANTS US TO BELIEVE

This Morning's CNN Opening Remarks on House Intelligence Investigation:

"HOUSE RUSSIA INVESTIGATIONS COME TO A HALT DUE TO POLITICAL IN-FIGHTING"

If I were Sean Spicer, this is exactly how I would want you to see the current mess that is the Nunes' traitorism portrayed in the media.   Setting aside the Administration’s contention that there is/are no Russian connections and that the many meetings, discussions, phone calls, emails Trump Teamers had with Russian agents were simply innocent run of the mill, nothing to get excited about, casual, friendly, no treasonous dealings at all, then one has to wonder why Nunes went to the White House to see the offending surveillance data, alert Trump, why he abruptly cancelled two hearings that were supposed to take place this week and why he has not revealed any information about what he alone of the Committee members has seen nor where it came from nor who, in fact, was implicated.

Democrats on the Committee, partisan politics or not, are “unhappy” about Nunes actions and why not?  If the purpose of the House Select Intelligence Committee is to investigate if there was any collusion between Russia and Trump Team members, then Democrats are kind of pissed that Nunes seems to be going out of his way to scotch the investigation or at the very least protect Trump and his minions.    Sure, we’re only at the very beginning of what could be a years' long event, but Nunes’ actions are not exactly the kinds of actions designed to maintain the objectivity and integrity of the Committee and its investigation.   He is refusing to recuse himself after he has thoroughly compromised the himself and the committee’s integrity.

Of course, no one in America expects any Congressional Hearing to be objective.  This is particularly true now after years of Republican Congressional hearings into the IRS, Benghazi and Hillary’s e-mails which no one on the entire planet could characterizes as impartial and objective.  But here’s the real deal:  We have never been faced with the prospect that a Presidential Election was influenced, steered, directed, altered towards electing one candidate over another.  No proof yet, but a whole sky full of smoke and this was the charge that the House Intelligence Committee has undertaken to prove or not.  This is not about Obama targeting conservative charitable organizations for IRS scrutiny as was alleged.  This is something a bit more substantial thus the  so-called “political in-fighting” stall as CNN described it is like calling a tsunami a minor surge tide.

The latest “news” in this mess, is that Sally Yates, former Acting Attorney General fired by the Trump Administration, was apparently advised that she could not testify at the committee’s now cancelled hearing without consulting with the White House.  There is some legitimacy to this claim since the internal communications among Administration officials could fall under the category of privileged communications.  On the other hand, the backstory to Yates who was fired for refusing to defend Trump’s first Muslim Travel Ban, is interesting:  She had apparently informed the White House of the undisclosed Michael Flynn meetings with the Russian Ambassador a month before he was forced to resign, and that the White House did nothing about it.  In fact, Flynn resigned only after his undisclosed meetings and his misstatements to Vice President Pence about them was revealed by the media.   Once again, this is one more small fact that supports the contention that the Trump Team is working hand in hand with Russia.

It’s not about “Political In-Fighting” as CNN put it.  It’s about finding out who cooperated with Russia - if anyone - in rigging the 2016 Presidential Election.  No more. No less.

It seems as if the Trump Administration is batting all “Russian connections” aside as mere concoctions by the media.  As he so pithily said:  “If the President puts Russian dressing on his salad, you call it a Russian connection.”   I guess, for me, the problem is that it seems as if many of the Trump Teamers are pretty much drowning in Russian salad dressing these days.

Have A Good Day!
