Trump Aides in Constant Touch With Senior Russian Officials During Campaign

“Washington:  Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump’s 2016 Presidential Campaign and other Trump associates, had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.”

Thus opens a Wednesday, February 15, 2017, front page newspaper article in the New York Times. Because you all know that I’m such a HUUUUUUGE Trump fan you can imagine just how much I was thrilled to read this.  Gave me a bit of hope for the future.  Here’s the second paragraph:

“American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said.”

So, I thought to myself as I read this, isn’t this around the time that FBI Director, James Comey, announced the re-opening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s e-mails as a result of the discovery of dick pics on Anthony Weiner’s laptop?  Really?  The Times article describes “frequent” and “constant” contacts not just a couple of random phone calls.  And note, too, they speak of "intelligence" officials not some country bank president.  This is what our government knew last year when the DNC hack broke into the news.  And the fucking Hillary Clinton e-mails that never put the nation in any danger whatsoever were so much more important than evidence that a foreign power (with the collusion of a Presidential Candidate) was attempting to influence a Presidential campaign?  Really?  This is what Comey deemed of national security importance rather than Russia fucking around in our election?  Note in addition, that since last year Trump and his entire team voiced thousands of denials that there was even a single connection between Trump, his team and Putin and/or Russia.    Really?  Sorry, but there is just no way that James Comey and the FBI ought not to be investigated up the wazoo over this.  This is both criminal and treasonous.

The hutzpah of the Trump Administration – and its voluminous misstatements already – knows no limits.  Even yesterday Sean Spicer, Chief Trump Administration Propagandist, insisted that there was no communications by Trump campaign staff with Russia during the campaign.  Wow!  Remember, at the time, the Trump folks insisted that no way was Russia behind the hacks into the DNC server.

The Donald, of course, is having none of this “Trump staff having constant and long term communications with Russia.”  Oh, no.  Don’t make this into some huuuuuge seditious, treasonous contretemps, it’s simply a case of illegal leaks from government slugs.  Just this morning, Representative Stephen King, (R-IA) always one to come to the defense of the indefensible right wing, insists that the real problem is the leaks and not the facts about Trump’s communications with Russian officials despite being pressed over and over again on CNN.  He says that he wants to see a transcript something I’m sure that the FBI and/or the CIA and/or the NSA will be happy to provide.  Wow!  This whole business is just too god-damned weird for reality television.  Than again, this stance, which seems to have been adopted by the entire Team Trump, is probably the most effective means of keeping this issue alive.

Trump’s Rust Belters?  As one former George W. Bush aide remarked:  “If you’re someone inside the Beltway, you think it’s been rocky.  If you are outside the Beltway, you think, “That’s why we sent him there.”  Yup!  They love all this bullshit but let's see what they think when the Trump folks have to respond to a serious crisis not some self-inflicted wound.

Here’s what Your President had to say (Tweet) this morning about the incident:

“The Russian connection non-sense is merely an attempt to cover up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton’s losing campaign.”

There is really nothing more to say.

But wait:  just alerted to the latest Trump Tweet:

Information is being illegally given to the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost by the intelligence community (NSA and FBI?).Just like Russia

Really?  So Trump – the alleged President of the United States of America -  believes that FBI, CIA and NSA employees leaking what, in fact, turns our to be some rather explosive information about potentially treasonous activities is “Just like Russia.”  Is he implying that just like in Russia the folks who are leaking this information are going to wind up dead soon from mysterious causes?  Jesus!  What Trump seems to constantly "miss" when it comes to the intelligence community, is that these are the government slugs he has to work with and who, should they so decide, can do him immense damage.   Naturally, I'm hopeful that they will.

We’ll see how all of this plays out.   I had expected that at some point Trump would get tripped up on his taxes or his Russian investments, but I did not imagine that it would come so early.  The chaos and confusion is a bit worrying, however.  Here’s a question that I would pose to the Rust Belters:

Do you think that in the event of a missile attack by North Korea (substitute whatever nation you think is dumb enough to attack the U.S.) tomorrow morning, that the Trump Administration is capable of responding in a measured, practical and effective manner?

Have A Great Day!!
