We all know, and by “we all” I’m referring to all us uber-Patriotic, Constitution loving, media hating, orange haired bobble head dashboard Trump, White Rust Belt Trump voters, that the Department of Homeland Security internal report that basically calls Trump’s Muslim Travel Ban simply bullshit (released, by the way, by the Associated Press certainly one of the more liberal elitist media outlets on the planet) and wholly ineffective in actually preventing terrorists from entering the country.     Naturally, Sean Spice, Chief Trump White House Propagandist, commented on the draft report thusly:

"While DHS was asked to draft a comprehensive report on this issue, the document you're referencing was commentary from a single intelligence source versus an official, robust document with thorough interagency sourcing.  The ... report does not include data from other intelligence community sources. It is incomplete."  And, naturally, that the entire drama is Obama’s fault.

But the facts of the matter are quite another story.  The Homeland Security report is based on unclassified information from Justice Department press releases on terrorism-related convictions and attackers killed in the act, State Department visa statistics, the 2016 Worldwide Threat Assessment from the U.S. intelligence community and the State Department Country Reports on Terrorism 2015. (Thus demolishing the "single source" lie.)

The three-page report challenges Trump's core claims. It said that of 82 people the government determined were inspired by a foreign terrorist group to carry out or try to carry out an attack in the United States, just over half were U.S. citizens born in the United States. The others were from 26 countries, led by Pakistan, Somalia, Bangladesh, Cuba, Ethiopia, Iraq and Uzbekistan. Of these, only Somalia and Iraq were among the seven nations included in the ban.

So there’s that.  But even more “startling,” if this term can be used to describe what could be the most serious claims of government malfeasance since Richard Nixon ordered the FBI to “back off” the Watergate investigation that led to his downfall, the biased, liberal, lamestream press has revealed that White House Officials have been yapping at the FBI and intelligence agencies to kill the stories about Trump Team’s connections with Russia during the campaign.  Sure, I suspect that such pleadings have been made by previous administrations.  After all, no President likes to have bad news about him or his administration splashed across the front pages of every newspaper in the country or highlighted on the Breaking News Headlines scrolls on hundreds of cable television channels simultaneously.

You could say then, that the Trump White House officials weren’t doing anything that other White House Officials have done in the past.  Sure.  One could say this.  But as with almost every other “situation” with the Trump folks, there’s a slight “wrinkle” to the story.  The “slight wrinkle” here is that Trump White House officials also approached the Chairmen of the committees who are investigating the Trump Russia connections (reluctantly, as it is) in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.  Apparently other committee members were spoken to also.   Now in what used to be America and not today’s  fascist Trumpland America, it isn’t seemly to try and suppress negative stories about an Administration by jawboning the members of the House and Senate committees who are in the process (presumably) of investigating those very lamestream press allegations about that administration.

So there was that.  This week is the Conservative Political Action Committee’s (CPAC) annual White Power convocation here in Washington.  And Your President used the opportunity to castigate the biased liberal press by once against calling them the “enemy of the American People” to the orgiastic delight of the thousands of party goers assembled in a massive hall just across the Potomac River in Maryland.    Now, just after Your President returned to the White House following his diatribe,  Chief White House Propagandist, Sean Spicer, convened an informal, off-camera confab for the press.  Well, not all the press, just those press members who weren’t in the process investigating the truth behind the Muslim Ban or the Russian Connection thing.   Yes, that’s right.  Apparently Your President doesn’t like “bad news” nor pesky investigative reporters who threaten to expose the misdeeds of the Trump Team like CNN – who, as the President never seems to tire of,  proclaimed on several occasions – generates “lies” and “fake news.”  So it was no big surprise that CNN would be banned.  But mildly surprising was the larger list of banned news organizations that includes the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Politico, BuzzFeed and the Guardian.  “Approved press attendees” included Breitbart, Fox News and the Washington Times, D.C.’s conservative newspaper that no one reads.

CNN has been smack in the middle of the Trump Team’s spotlight for criticism and approbation.  And here’s why:  it was CNN who revealed that Trump White House officials had asked the FBI to kill the bad Russia Connections stories.  About this revelation, White House officials demanded anonymity from reporters attending a briefing to criticize the CNN report that Chief of Staff Reince Priebus had asked FBI officials to publicly disavow stories about Trump campaign aides’ connections with Russian sources.  So as Trump rallies against fake news and “lying anonymous sources,” his White House Chief of Staff was demanding to remain anonymous in discussing the CNN revelations.

Following Trump’s return to the White House (imagining him sitting in the Oval Office or sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom gives me the creeps) here’s what he Tweeted:

“FAKE NEWS media knowingly doesn’t tell the truth.  [Trump too, like most conservatives, seems to be missing the irony gene] A great danger to our country [Irony?] The failing @nytimes has become a joke.  Likewise @CNN.  Sad.”

Drove past the Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue yesterday and got a chance to read the First Amendment which is carved on their front façade while waiting for the traffic light to change.  It’s short.  It’s precise and it’s worth reading:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Think for a moment about all the complaints, murmurings and attacks that the Trump Administration has engaged in thus far so early in this Administration.  The attack on the press is daily news, but what about the guys who have been fired from Federal government services for criticizing Trump?  Or the continual slamming of all the protests and demonstrations that are ongoing since January 20th 2016?  It’s very difficult to rationally analyze what’s going on.  Is it just ineptness and incompetence that has caused these attacks on the First Amendment?  Or is it the Bannon agenda that consists of deconstructing America’s institutions and engaging in world wide religious warfare?    Never forget that Trump is actually just the famous “curtain” in the Wizard of OZ hiding what’s really going on.  It’s the guys behind the curtain – Bannon, Miller, Gorka – who are the real dangers to the country.

As I said, there is some very weird shit going on in Washington and where it ends up is anyone’s guess.  You and me might see Trump as simply a bad President, if not the worst President ever.  But the Trumpettes?  Nah.  No problem as far as they’re concerned since Trump is doing what they elected him for, which roughly defined is: to take revenge on every liberal institution and every piece of liberal progress we have made as a nation.  It’s really that simple.
