WHY SO MANY AMERICANS ARE PROTESTING TRUMP
Let’s be very clear about where we liberals and progressives stand:We will not allow Donald J. Trump, whatever his position or claims to legitimacy and fame might be, to foment a coup against America and destroy everything we stand for.If this sounds like a manifesto, then so be it.The signs, thirty days into his Presidency, are not good. We’ve all borne witness to the antics, bombast, disrespect, reality show public policies and his generally ridiculous behavior, tweets and ramblings and lies and it’s been painful for us to see and hear. His staff of propagandists and verbal storm troopers are eerily reflective of a campaign to destroy our institutions and government just like Steve Bannon has prophesied.Verbal bombast is one thing but the maniacal ravings coming from the Trump Team coupled with the widespread roundup dragnet that is Trump's immigration policy and the inhumane Muslim Travel Ban does not bode well for the future. For the fut…

Across the heartland, Trump voters are a bit confused as to what the hell they voted for

The Washington Post decided to spare us a weeks-long series examining the minds of Trump voters by lumping a whole bunch of them together in a single story. Many Iowans worry Trump might cut support for wind-energy and ethanol programs; that his trade policies could hurt farms that export their crops; that mass deportations would empty the state’s factories and meat-packing plants; and that a repeal of the Affordable…

The Immigration Facts Donald Trump Doesn’t Like
BY: NYT Editorial Board February 25, 2017
Let’s be clear: The moral case against President Trump’s plan to uproot and expel millions of unauthorized immigrants is open-and-shut. But what about the economic cost? This is where deeply shameful collides with truly stupid. The Migration Policy Institute reported in 2013 that the federal government spends more each year on immigration enforcement — through Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol — than on all other federal law enforcement agencies combined. The total has risen to more than $19 billion a year, and more than $306 billion in all since 1986, measured in 2016 dollars. This exceeds the sum of all spending for the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Secret Service; the Marshals Service; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. ICE and the Border Patrol already refer more cases for federal prosecution than t…
