THE POWERFUL POLITICS OF FEAR AND HATE
LET'S BE CRYSTAL CLEAR ABOUT HOW TRUMP GOT ELECTED AND WHAT WE NEED TO DO ABOUT IT
Let's begin by a summary of how Donald J. Trump won the 2016 Presidential Election. The Electoral College vote, that is, since he lost the popular vote by 2 million.
Yup! This was pretty much The Donald's entire campaign. Scare people about hordes of Mexicans crossing the border when such crossings are at their lowest point in decades. Scare people about ISIS taking over the country when - until his election - ISIS has been on the run in the Middle East. Scare folks about all those ISIS terrorists disguised as Syrian refugees flooding the country when the U.S. has taken in virtually none compared to Europe. Accuse you opponent of damaging national security when her basement server was just about the only government server that WASN'T hacked over the past decade. But Trump told folks what they wanted to hear absent any reference to factual data and information. This is basically the right wing white supremacist means of garnering followers. Scary that Trump was also so successful, isn't it?
I don't know who this woman is, how this clip was made, who paid for it or anything else about it. But I have to say that what she expresses are EXACTLY, PRECISELY, RIGHT UP IN THERE my sentiments and feelings after this shitstorm of an election. Me? I am sick to death of trying to understand the other side's point of view. Tired of always having to be polite while being trashed and slimed. Sick of dalkjfajdlaj
And then there's the ever calm, ever reasonable Noam Chomsky:
But as I don't cotton to fear based appeals. Nor do I much care for appeals to folks' racist, bigoted and xenophobic inner feelings. Such the success of such appeals leads to places that I don't wish to go. If my country wishes to go there? Fine. Go on ahead without me.
No. For me there will no no coming together. Ever.
