Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin Says Conservatives May Have To Turn To Physical Violence
“Whose blood will be shed? It may be that of those in this room,” Bevin said.
September 13, 2016
Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin (R) said on Saturday that conservatives may have to turn to physical violence to protect their values.
“I want us to be able to fight ideologically, mentally, spiritually, economically, so that we don’t have to do it physically,” Bevin said during his speech at the Values Voter Summit in Washington. “But that may, in fact, be the case.”
Bevin went on to say that he believed the U.S. would survive a Hillary Clinton presidency, but it might required bloodshed.
“The roots of the tree of liberty are watered by what? The blood. Of who? The tyrants to be sure, but who else? The patriots,” he said. “Whose blood will be shed? It may be that of those in this room. It might be that of our children and grandchildren. I have nine children. It breaks my heart to think that it might be their blood that is needed to redeem something, to reclaim something, that we through our apathy and our indifference have given away. Don’t let it happen.”
Asked by the Lexington Herald-Leader to clarify his comments, Bevin said he was talking about military service.
“Today we have thousands of men and women in uniform fighting for us overseas and they need our full backing,” he said in a statement. “We cannot be complacent about the determination of radical Islamic extremists to destroy our freedoms. Nor can we allow apathy and indifference to allow our culture to crumble from within.”
Republican nominee Donald Trump has also used violent imagery during his presidential campaign.
“If she gets to pick her judges ― nothing you can do, folks,” Trump said in August. “Although, the Second Amendment people. Maybe there is. I don’t know.”
NOTE: Anyone think that Matt’s “I was referring to military service” sounds just a tad hypocritical? When he says his nine children might have to “redeem” or “reclaim” something lost through apathy or indifference, he was referring to military service? Sure he was.
This kind of irresponsible “talk” is simply reprehensible. On the other hand, it’s not unique to Governor Bevin nor is it simply a one-off rant. Folks like Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and any number of Congressmen and Congresswomen, Michelle Bachmann comes to mind, have promoted the same kind of irresponsible bullshit. And you will certainly find this kind of violent revelation promoted on thousands of right wing web sites. Most of these right wingers point to Barak Obama or Liberals and Socialists as the reason why forceful revolution might be called for.
But think about what Governor Bevin is saying: If Hillary Clinton is elected President and even though America might survive her Presidency, we will have become so weak (?) so complacent (?) so apathetic (?) and/or so blind (?) that afterword’s Americans will have to take up arms to “redeem” and “reclaim” something (Freedom (?) Democracy (?) The Nation (?)) that we will have lost. This is a rather incredible assessment of not only Hillary Clinton but on the voting public as well. I suppose that Governor Bevin might believe that the election of Barak Obama was a mistake, or an error or rigged and our lives have been irreparably harmed, but I don’t think this is what America believes. And I am quite willing to bet that even if the rest of us make the “mistake” of electing Hillary Clinton as our next President on November 8th 2016, we and the country will most likely survive such a thoughtless, irresponsible and nation destroying decision.
But when the Governor of one of the states of the United States of America - even Kentucky - goes so far as to say that the election of Hillary Clinton might be cause for armed revolution, this person should not be holding pubic office. Hopefully, the folks in Kentucky will boot Governor Matt Bevin (R) out of office come this fall.
