LIBERAL, LEFT WING, SOCIALIST, COMMUNIST TREASON IN ACTION!!!!
THIS UN-PATRIOTIC, UN-AMERICAN, UN-SANE STUFF MUST BE STOPPED!
We don’t know yet how many people will not be able to vote in this November’s election due to all the states who have passed Voter ID laws to prevent fraud, even though there were 10 cases of voter ID fraud that these laws would have prevented in over 10 billion votes cast over the past decade. (I mean there’s a real crisis if I ever saw one!). Let me modify this a tad to: “How many Democratic citizens of the United States of America would be denied the vote?” because this is exactly what Voter ID laws are designed to achieve. And judging by voting snafus in Arizona, Wisconsin and New York City during the primaries, it appears that either 1) the voter disenfranchisement laws are working; and/or 2) our entire voting system needs a complete overhaul.
But Virginia Governor (and close friend of the Clintons), Terry McAuliffe (D-VA) in a rather sharp departure from his arch conservative, vaginal probe, University of Virginia climate change research investigation, abortion clinic hospital requirements Governor and all around felon, Bob McDonnell (R-VA Federal Prison hopefully), has restored voting rights to 200,000 former Virginia prisoners who have served their time. Basically, this is pretty much how things used to work before the country got bamboozled by the right wing data that showed former criminals couldn’t operate voting machines and, therefore, were declared ineligible to vote in many Red States.
Is there a political aim with McAuliffe’s action? Probably. In fact, he admitted as much. There is simply no rationale to deny people who’ve committed a crime, been equitably tried and convicted (or pled guilty), served their time and are now free to be denied the right to vote. Governor McAuliffe’s action rectifies the Commonwealth of Virginia’s long history of denying African Americans the right to vote.
He also spoke of the historic significance of the occasion in relation to Virginia's 1901-1902 constitutional convention, which set up poll taxes, literacy tests and disenfranchisement for felons as barriers for African-American participation.
"Today, the last ghost of the 1902 convention was buried," Howard said.
Levar Stoney, a Richmond mayoral candidate who worked with McAuliffe to restore rights for 18,000 ex-offenders as secretary of the commonwealth, read a quote from then-legislator Carter Glass about the voting plan adopted at the 1902 convention.
"This plan, will eliminate the darkey as a political factor in this state in less than five years, so that in no single county will there be the least concern felt for the complete supremacy of the white race in the affairs of government," Stoney said as he introduced the governor. Public service, he said, is about "giving voice to the voiceless and righting the wrongs."
Speaking in the former capital of the Confederacy, McAuliffe and others drew parallels to the Civil War.
NOTE: Kudos to the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
