Yesterday House Select Benghazi Committee Chairman, South Carolina’s Trey Gowdy(R)  appeared on Face the Nation to proclaim that unless one is a member of the 6 member committee, you should “shut up” about what is or what is not happening in secret behind the Committee’s closed door interrogations.  But his statement itself is quite revealing:  The House Select Committee consists of 12 members not 6 + Gowdy.  The fact of the matter is that the Committee also includes Democrats
as well as Republicans but apparently Gowdy forgot that his committee of which he is Chairman and, one would assume, he can actually muster sufficient mental clarity to count the number of members as they sit in their chairs in the Committee hearing room, isn’t only composed of Republicans who seem unable to turn their attention to investigating the four American deaths in Benghazi rather than investigating Presidential contender, Hillary Clinton.

Thank God for Elijah Cummings (D-MD) who is on a mission to remind Gowdy that he too is a legal member of the House Select Benghazi  Committee along with 4 other of his fellow Democrats.  Time and time again, Cummings has publically called out the Chairman for conducting what Cummings sees (the rest of America too who aren’t contributors to the “Hatred for Hillary” PAC) as a partisan witch hunt and revealed facts and information that Gowdy has chosen not to leak to the press since it undermines his mission:  destroy Hillary by any means necessary.

Here’s the latest on the “Classified Or Not Hillary E-Mail Scandal:”

SUN OCT 18, 2015 AT 07:37 PM PDT

On October 7, 2015, Trey Gowdy sent a public letter to Rep Elijah Cummings that made the false accusation that:

In addition to Sidney Blumenthal's business interests, Secretary Clinton also apparently received classified information from Blumenthal-information she should have known was classified at the time she received it. In one email, Blumenthal writes "Tyler spoke to a colleague currently at CIA, who told him the agency had been dependent for intelligence from [redacted due to sources and methods] ." This information, the name of a human source, is some of the most protected information in our intelligence community, the release of which could jeopardize not only national security but also human lives. Armed with that information, Secretary Clinton forwarded the email to a colleague-debunking her claim that she never sent any classified information from her private email address.49 There may be other instances as well where Secretary Clinton passed on classified information she received from Sidney Blumenthal. [My emphasis]

Yesterday, the CIA confirmed that Gowdy lied:

[A]ccording to committee correspondence reviewed by Newsweek, the CIA did tell the [Benghazi] panel on Saturday that it had reviewed 127 emails between Clinton and her close friend and outside adviser, Sidney Blumenthal, and none of it was deemed classified. “The CIA reviewed the material in question and informed State that it required no redactions,” the agency informed Susan Sachsman Grooms, staff director and general counsel for the panel’s Democrats, on October 17. [My emphasis]

This is a scandal and a disgrace.
Will anyone care?
I doubt it.
But a scandal and a disgrace it remains.

Top Dem Slams Benghazi Committee Chair For False Claim Against Hillary Clinton

Democrats have alleged that the committee is primarily focused on damaging Clinton.

Associate Politics Editor, The Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- The top Democrat on the committee investigating the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, called out the committee's chair on Sunday for advancing a claim against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the CIA later proved false.
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, alleged in an Oct. 7 letter that Clinton used her private email account to release the name of a CIA source on Libya. An email sent by adviser Sidney Blumenthal that she then forwarded to a member of her staff reportedly contained the name of that source, which would have suggested that Clinton used her private email server to disseminate classified information.

But on Sunday, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the committee's ranking member, revealed that the CIA investigated the email and found that the information was not classified.
"The CIA yesterday informed both the Republican and Democratic staffs of the Select Committee that they do not consider the information you highlighted in your letter to be classified. Specifically, the CIA confirmed that the State Department consulted with the CIA on this production, the CIA reviewed these documents, and the CIA made no redactions to protect classified information," Cummings said in a letter to Gowdy.

He called Gowdy's claim "irresponsible" and said he owes Clinton "an immediate apology."
Clinton is set to testify before the committee on Thursday. Democrats have continually insisted that the committee's work is political and designed to target Clinton rather than investigate the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya.
"Unfortunately, the standard operating procedure of this Select Committee has become to put out information publicly that is inaccurate and out of context in order to attack Secretary Clinton for political reasons," Cummings said on Sunday.
Gowdy continues to defend the committee's work, even as two Republican lawmakers, including House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), have suggested that damaging Clinton is the committee's main intent.

On Sunday, Gowdy denied that the committee is primarily focused on Clinton, telling CBS's "Face the Nation" that anyone who is not on the committee is not authorized to speak about the investigation.
"I have told my own Republican colleagues and friends: 'Shut up talking about things that you don't know anything about.' And unless you are on the committee, you have no idea what we have done, why we've done it," he said.
In response, Cummings, who also appeared on "Face the Nation," disputed Gowdy's account, saying that the committee's investigation is mostly geared toward gathering testimony from members of Clinton's staff. A House Democratic aide told The Huffington Post last week that Gowdy has skipped meetings with intelligence officials familiar with the Benghazi attack and mainly attends the ones featuring Clinton's aides. On Friday, top Clinton aide Huma Abedin fielded the committee's questions for several hours.

"We still have been zeroed in on Hillary Clinton. There is absolutely no doubt about that, and it's very unfortunate," Cummings said.
Like the old timey WhatwaterGate/Filegate/JenniferFlowersGate/WhiteHouseTravelGate/ArkansasStateTrooperGate/VinceFosterMurderGate and the literally dozen other so-called scandals ginned up by the right wing Clinton demonizing industry back in the 1990’s, this entire Benghazi Scandal – Why didn’t Hillary send troops to Benghazi?/Was Hillary sleeping when Benghazi went down?/Who was she sleeping with?/Why did Hillary refuse increased security?- is only a scandal among the loony right wing conspiracists. And, apparently, Gowdy is included in this Select Group.  In reality, the entire costly, time-wasting side show of Trey Gowdy’s hearings on getting to the truth about what happened in Benghazi is nothing more than an attempt to derail Hillary from being nominated as President and ultimately winning the Presidency in 2016.

And America knows it.  Even if Gowdy doesn’t.
