BREAKING NEWS: HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PASSES BILL TO DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD
HERE’S WHAT HILLARY HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE REPUBLICAN DEBATERS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF WHOM SUPPORTS DEFUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD
By Hillary Clinton:
“Last night, 11 Republican candidates continued their race to the bottom on women’s health and women’s rights. They made one outlandish statement after another. And every single candidate on stage has pledged to defund Planned Parenthood if they become president.
It’s bad enough to see hateful rhetoric and lies in a presidential debate. But just like the candidates on stage last night, Republicans in Congress want to defund Planned Parenthood. And they’re willing to shut down the federal government to do it, no matter how bad that is for our country. That’s how far they’ll go to stop an organization that provides 500,000 breast exams, 400,000 pap tests, and 4.5 million STD tests every year.
Repeating false statements doesn’t make them true, no matter how many times you do it. Defunding a trusted health care provider that serves one in five women in America doesn’t help anyone – in fact, it would hurt hundreds of thousands of people. Speaker Boehner and his colleagues have a job to do, and they should do it. Here’s my message to them: Don’t attack women’s health care. And don’t shut down the government. –H”
Good show Hillary!
Let’s recall that the “Congressional Defund Planned Parenthood Tsunami” is based on a lie. Well, not a single lie, but several as perfectly illustrated by the doctored videos produced by a fake “medical” group, the ironically named Center For Medical Progress, and released to the public over the past two months. Most Americans actually support Planned Parenthood, when asked if the Federal Government should continue to fund Planned Parenthood, 54% said yes, 26% said no, according to a recent Reuters poll. Note that the question is not “Do you support Planned Parenthood?” but asks specifically if Federal funds should be used to find the organization. I suspect that the more general question “Do you support Planned Parenthood?” would produce much greater public support.
So let’s be clear about who in Congress is backing the defunding movement: Republicans. Democrats are not and in fact have already stated that they will block the bill in the Senate and Obama has stated publicly that he will veto any bill that contains language to defund Planned Parenthood. But data, factual information, statistics just don’t seem to be able pierce the spongy brain matter that fills the skulls of Republicans today. (“Oh I know,” as Bill Maher might say, “they are appealing to their base.” Yes, their base of irrational “Obama is Muslim” constituents who probably don’t have sufficient education to actually be able to read the Constitution much less understands its words.)
As Hillary points out in her message, every single one of the 11 Republicans at last Wednesday’s debate support defunding Planned Parenthood, even the lone female on the stage, Carly Fiorina. Here’s what she said:
"As regards Planned Parenthood, anyone who has watched this videotape, I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain."
WTF! Ummmm….. not really Carly. IN FACT, Republican Female Presidential Candidate Carly Fiorina simply made this up. Pulled it out of her ass (as Bill Maher might say). There is no such “fetus on the table, its heart beating” scene in the fake-upped Center for Medial Progress videos. It never happened. It is a fairly astounding statement from someone who otherwise appears to one of the more rational Republican candidates, all of whom (Bill Christie excepted, partly) running around the country with nary a thought to facts and data.
So in light of Hillary’s response to the Rabble Rousing Rabid Republicans who support defunding Planned Parenthood based on doctored videos and lies and former HP CEO, Carly Fiorina’s simply made up response, is there really a choice here? Sure, maybe there is for the rabid Tea Baggers and the equally rabid Right-To-Life-In-The-Womb-But-Not-Post-Birth folks, but for the rest of us?
For those of us who actually believe that public policy ought to be based – at least marginally – on factual information, on statistics and data, the choice could not be more clear.
