“PHOENIX: Almost 250 mostly armed anti-Muslim demonstrators – many wearing T-shits bearing a profanity-laced message denouncing Islam ["Fuck Islam"] – faced off against a crowd of roughly the same size defending the faith in front of a Phoenix Mosque Friday night.”
Reading the first sentence of this article, I couldn’t get past the “mostly armed” phrase. “Mostly Armed?” Why? Why Armed? Why in a “peaceful protest” does one need to arm oneself? I think it’s a timely question because it does seem as if there are more occurances around the country of armed confrontations between groups with differeing views and confrontations between citizens and the authorities.
I sat there thinking about Jon Ritzheimer and his motivation for asking in a call to his followers that they bring arms to what was ostensibly a "peaceful protest. Okay. Let’s say that this call to arms is legitimate. But then I have to ask what is the motivation? Was Ritzheimer anticipating that his protest would be met by armed ISIS jihadists? Outraged, motar-bearing Muslims? Or was it that he thought the local police or Federal Agents (as in the Cliven Bundy armed incident) would show up to prevent his protest from happening? Maybe he was just exercising his First and Second Amendment rights of freedom of expression and to bear arms. The latter, according to Jon, is his motivation.
Jon Ritzheimer began demonstrating after the deaths of two people outside the exhibit in Dallas two weeks ago of the Pamela Geller sponsored Muhammad cartoon-drawing contest. This is when he also began creating and selling “Fuck Islam” T-shirts which is the one the demonstrtoers wore on Friday. This was the message he sent out:
“People are also encouraged to utilize there [sic] second amendment right at this event just incase [sic] our first amendment comes under the much anticipated attack” the event invitation site stated. Jon Ritzheimer called the rally “Freedom of Speech Round 2” and as noted in his invitation: “This will be a PEACEFUL protest.” Of course, one would have to ask, then, the logical question:
Why, if this was a peaceful protest, did you ask that the participants be armed?
Watch Anderson Cooper politely shred Jon Ritzheimer on his closely held beliefs:
Frankly, I see this whole "Christian Jihadist Movement" coming to a very bad end. At some point, there will be violence and bloodshed at one of these anti-Islam protests. And I suspect that when blood flows, it will only be the catalyst for a national call to arms from the Uber-Patriot Right Wing Anti-Muslim folks. Now imagine, if you will, if under the Obama Administration there should be a Ruby Ridge or Waco incident where Federal agents are involved in the deaths of right wing extremists? There will probably be a right wing explosion of armed insurrection. That they will have brought upon themselves.
Have A Good Day!
