INCREDIBLE INDIA : INCREDIBLE INDIAN
THE EDMUND THOMAS CLINT EXHIBITION
One of the more moving and spectacular exhibits in this year’s Kochi Biennale, is that of a young man from Kochi, Edmund Thomas Clint. Born on May 19,1976, the young man apparently wielded pens, crayons, pencils from a very early age and produced an extensive and profoundly mature body of work some of which is currently on display here. From his pastoral scenes of local fisherman, boats sailing in the Arabian Sea, festival celebrations, birds, tigers and both Christian and Hindu mythologies, his keen eye and fine skills are self-evident. His drawings and sketches reveal a talent decidedly larger than his age or intellectual development would suggest.
At the age of seven years old, the young boy suffered a kidney ailment that lead to his death on April 15, 1983.
His stunning work at such a young age only intensifies the question of what he may have produced had he lived a longer life.
