MAJOR SONGWRITER PASSES AT AGE 83

THE SONGWRITER BEHIND THE HITS

Recognize the following songs:

“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”
“Lady Marmalade”
“Walk Like A Man”
“Silhouettes”
“Good Morning Starshine”
“Big Girls Don’t Cry”
“My Eyes Adored You”
“Devil With the Blue Dress On”

Now, do you recognize the name Bob Crewe?

No?  Well I didn’t either but come to find out he wrote, co-wrote or produced the list of songs above and many, many more Top 10 hits.  And not only for the Four Seasons but for the Ronettes, Patti LaBelle, Bobby Darin, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, and many more artists.  Sure, songwriter Carole King I recognize, Ashford and Simpson and Holland-Dozier-Holland, likewise.  But Bob Crewe?  Never heard his name before.  He was inducted into the “ Songwriters Hall of Fame” in 1995.  Bob Crewe died yesterday.

May this remarkable talent rest in peace.  His songs will live on.
